We're partnering with a high-growth Canadian technology company to find an exceptional Director, Creative & Brand to lead its multidisciplinary in-house creative agency.

This is an opportunity for a creative leader who believes great brands are built by continually pushing the work forward. You'll set the creative vision, raise the bar for what great looks like, and lead a talented team responsible for bringing the brand to life across an increasingly diverse range of customer experiences.

The organization values new thinking, experimentation and bold creative ideas. Its leadership team would rather test something ambitious and learn from it than allow the brand to become predictable or stale. The right leader will embrace that philosophy - challenging their team and partners to take smart creative risks while connecting the work back to meaningful business outcomes.

The Opportunity

Operating as an in-house agency, the creative team partners with stakeholders across Marketing to deliver work spanning brand, digital, campaigns, content, product marketing, lifecycle marketing, PR, events, community programs, influencer initiatives, video, podcasts and other high-profile brand programs.

As Director, Creative & Brand, you'll lead this organization and establish the creative direction and operating environment that allows talented people to do their best work.

You'll oversee four teams across:

  • Copywriting
  • Design
  • Video & motion
  • Creative operations and project management

Most of the creative work is done internally, with the remainder supported by external partners. In partnership with Creative Operations, you'll determine what should stay in-house, when external expertise can elevate the work, and which partners are right for the assignment.

This isn't a role where you'll spend your days writing copy or designing assets yourself. Your impact comes from setting the creative bar, shaping the direction, challenging the thinking and elevating the final work.

What You'll Do

Set the Creative Vision

  • Own and continually evolve the creative expression of the brand across channels and customer touchpoints.
  • Establish a high creative bar and inspire the organization to continually push beyond what's been done before.
  • Encourage thoughtful experimentation, new ideas and smart creative risk-taking.
  • Provide clear creative direction at the beginning of major initiatives and return at key stages to challenge, refine and elevate the work.
  • Ensure creative output is distinctive, cohesive and unmistakably connected to the brand.
  • Balance exceptional creative thinking with measurable business objectives.

Lead an In-House Creative Agency

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team spanning copy, design, motion, video and creative operations.
  • Create an environment where talented creatives feel trusted, challenged and inspired to produce exceptional work.
  • Coach and develop creative leaders and individual contributors, creating meaningful conversations around career development and growth.
  • Recognize great work and ensure team contributions and wins are visible across the organization.
  • Establish clarity around expectations, priorities and what exceptional creative looks like.
  • Ensure the team delivers consistently against commitments without sacrificing craft for speed.

Push the Creative Envelope

  • Bring an appetite for what's next - new ideas, new formats, new technologies and new ways for the brand to show up.
  • Challenge conventional approaches and encourage the team to experiment rather than default to what's safe or familiar.
  • Stay connected to culture, creative trends and emerging approaches that could strengthen the brand.
  • Help a talented team move beyond strong execution toward work that is memorable, differentiated and capable of building an enduring brand.

Partner Across Marketing

You'll work closely with senior leaders across areas such as Product Marketing, Demand Generation, PR and Communications, Lifecycle Marketing and other functions.

You'll:

  • Build trusted relationships with senior marketing stakeholders.
  • Translate business priorities into clear, compelling creative direction.
  • Navigate competing priorities while protecting the quality and integrity of the brand.
  • Help stakeholders understand what great creative can accomplish for their business objectives.
  • Present creative strategy and work to executive leadership with confidence.
  • Connect creative decisions to customer insight, marketing objectives and measurable business impact.

Evolve How Creative Gets Done

The mandate isn't only about the work customers see. You'll also rethink how the creative organization operates behind the scenes.

  • Partner with Creative Operations to continually improve workflow, prioritization and resource allocation.
  • Determine when work is best handled internally versus through agencies, freelancers or specialist external partners.
  • Explore how AI, technology and emerging creative tools can increase velocity and output without compromising quality.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline repetitive work and create more space for high-value creative thinking.
  • Build processes that allow the organization to move quickly while maintaining a consistently high creative standard.

Steward the Brand Across Every Experience

Your team's work will touch a wide range of customer experiences, including:

  • Brand campaigns
  • Website and digital experiences
  • Product marketing
  • Lifecycle marketing
  • PR and communications
  • Events and conferences
  • Community initiatives
  • Influencer programs
  • Podcasts and original content
  • Video and motion
  • Special brand initiatives

With a significant website evolution underway, you'll also help ensure the brand's look, feel and creative expression remain cohesive across digital and offline experiences as the broader brand ecosystem evolves.

What We're Looking For

You're an experienced creative leader who has helped ambitious brands become more distinctive, recognizable and relevant.

Ideally, you bring:

  • 10+ years of progressive creative, brand or integrated marketing experience, including meaningful leadership experience.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary creative teams across areas such as design, copy, video, motion and creative operations.
  • A track record of developing and evolving brands within high-growth or scale-up environments.
  • B2B or B2C experience from other environments in which you developed innoative, cutting-edge, brand-building experience.
  • Strong creative judgment and the ability to recognize, articulate and elevate exceptional work.
  • Experience operating within or leading an in-house agency or internal creative organization.
  • The ability to inspire talented creatives without needing to personally execute the work.
  • Strong experience partnering with senior marketing leaders and translating diverse stakeholder needs into cohesive creative.
  • The executive presence to confidently present creative strategy, advocate for ideas and connect creative decisions to business outcomes.
  • A thoughtful approach to people leadership, coaching and career development.
  • Experience managing a mix of internal creative resources and external agencies, freelancers or production partners.
  • Curiosity about AI and emerging creative technology, with an interest in using new tools to improve workflows, efficiency and creative output.
  • Experience supporting significant digital or website initiatives from a brand and creative perspective would be an asset.

Your Portfolio

A portfolio is an important part of the process.

We're interested not only in the finished work, but in how you made it better.

We want to understand the creative standard you've established, the ideas you've championed, how you've pushed teams beyond the expected, and how the resulting work contributed to the evolution and performance of the brand.

Show us work with craft, quality, care and ambition - and be prepared to tell us what you personally did to help make it exceptional.

The Kind of Leader Who Will Thrive Here

You're someone who can walk into a room of talented creatives and make the work better without needing to make it your own.

You know when to give people room and when to challenge them.

You're comfortable telling an executive why an ambitious creative idea is worth pursuing - and equally comfortable connecting that idea back to the business.

You care deeply about craft, but you're pragmatic about deadlines, resources and results.

Most importantly, you're energized by the opportunity to push an already successful brand into its next creative chapter rather than simply maintain what's already working.

This role can be based anywhere in Canada.
